Poland Rock Salt Deposits: Kłodawa, Mogilno, Góra, Bądzów, Wieliczka and Zechstein Salt Domes

Poland's rock-salt deposits and mines, including Kłodawa, Mogilno, Góra, Bądzów, Wieliczka and the country's Zechstein salt structures.

Poland contains major rock-salt resources formed in more than one geological setting. The Turkish atlas highlights both Zechstein salt structures and the historically famous Wieliczka district.

Zechstein Evaporites

Late Permian Zechstein evaporites extend beneath large parts of northern and central Europe. In Poland, burial and later deformation produced thick salt structures and domes.

Kłodawa

Kłodawa is one of Poland’s best-known underground rock-salt mining centres. It is associated with a strongly deformed Zechstein salt structure containing halite and other evaporite minerals.

Mogilno, Góra and Bądzów

Mogilno, Góra and Bądzów are included in the Turkish atlas as important Polish salt structures or mining localities. Their significance lies in the broad Zechstein evaporite province.

Wieliczka

Wieliczka represents a different and exceptionally important historical salt-mining landscape. Its long mining history made it one of Europe’s best-known underground salt heritage sites.

Why Poland Matters

Poland demonstrates how rock salt can occur both as deformed deep evaporite structures and as historically mined deposits with major cultural significance. It is a core country in the Europe Rock Salt Atlas.
