Rock Salt Guide and World Rock Salt Atlas

Explore rock salt through halite geology, world and Türkiye salt atlases, Cankiri rock salt, salt types, production, history, minerals and scientific research.

ROCK SALT KNOWLEDGE PORTAL · GEOLOGY · MINES · HISTORY · SCIENCE

KayaTuzu.com.tr is a comprehensive reference portal for rock salt and halite. Explore how rock salt forms, where major deposits occur, how salt is mined and produced, the geology of Türkiye and Çankırı, the history of salt, mineral composition, scientific research and practical uses.

The portal brings together geological atlases, mine profiles, regional inventories, research summaries and sourced reference guides so that each subject can be explored from a broader overview down to individual deposits, mines and scientific studies.

Rock Salt: Geology, Formation and Types

Rock salt is the sedimentary form of the mineral halite, primarily composed of sodium chloride. Large deposits generally formed when saline waters evaporated within restricted marine basins, continental basins or ancient evaporite systems. Over geological time these salt layers were buried, deformed, uplifted and in some regions transformed into salt domes and diapirs.

Our introductory guides cover halite formation, evaporite geology, mineral composition, different natural salt types and the geological processes that create mineable rock-salt deposits.

Rock Salt Guide

Start with the fundamentals: what rock salt is, how halite forms, the structure of evaporite deposits and the terminology used in geology and salt mining.

Salt Types

Compare rock salt with sea salt, lake salt, spring salt and other naturally occurring salt sources, with emphasis on origin and production rather than marketing terminology.

Rock Salt Chemistry

Explore halite chemistry, trace elements, mineral associations, fluid inclusions, ancient seawater records and analytical studies of natural salt samples.

World Rock Salt Atlas

Rock-salt deposits occur across many geological periods and tectonic settings. The World Rock Salt Atlas organizes deposits by continent, country, basin and individual mine so readers can move from a global overview to specific geological sites.

The atlas includes major salt provinces, underground mines, solution-mining areas, salt domes, evaporite basins and historically important salt-producing regions.

Cankiri Rock Salt

Çankırı is one of the central subjects of this portal. Its rock-salt resources are examined through geology, underground mining, individual extraction areas, historical records, production, regional industry and scientific research.

Rather than treating Çankırı rock salt as a single product, the portal documents the wider geological system: halite-bearing formations, mines and exploration areas, saline springs, production facilities and the historical development of salt mining in the region.

Cankiri Salt Atlas

Explore Balıbağı, Potuk, Germece, Yenidoğan, Ovacık and other documented salt sites through one regional atlas.
