Design of the Peru Study
The 2014 protocol lists Miranda among the responsible investigators and identifies his affiliation with the CRONICAS Centre of Excellence in Chronic Diseases.
The study used a stepped-wedge cluster-randomized design to test a lower-sodium, higher-potassium salt substitute at population level.
Nature Medicine Results
The 2020 Nature Medicine paper lists Miranda among the investigators who conceived and designed the study.
The intervention enrolled 2,376 participants in six villages and evaluated blood pressure and incident hypertension.
International Collaboration
Miranda later appeared with researchers including Yangfeng Wu and Bruce Neal in international work reviewing salt substitution for hypertension and cardiovascular prevention.
This connects the Peru program with larger global salt-substitution research such as SSaSS in China.
