Fayet-Moore and colleagues examined pink salt not only as sodium chloride but across a panel of 25 nutrient and non-nutrient minerals/elements.

Why a Multi-Element Analysis?
Natural rock salt can contain clays, oxides, sulfates and other geological components in addition to the dominant halite phase.
A multi-element scan allows geochemical differences among products to be quantified.
Large Variability
The paper reported particularly wide sample-to-sample variation in calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and sodium.
Variation was also analysed against characteristics such as colour intensity, labelled origin and physical form.
Presence Does Not Equal Meaningful Nutritional Contribution
The researchers did not equate detection of nutrient minerals with a meaningful contribution to daily nutrition.
Their analysis noted that very high salt consumption would be required to obtain substantial nutrient amounts, while simultaneously providing excessive sodium.
