Michael R. Hudec is a Research Professor at the Bureau of Economic Geology and a principal investigator in the Applied Geodynamics Laboratory. His research focuses on the evolution of salt structures, 3-D modelling, seismic interpretation and structural restoration.
For related guides and articles, see the Michael R. Hudec section.
Entry into Salt Tectonics
Hudec’s UT profile explains that his focus on salt tectonics began when he joined Exxon Production Research in 1989.
He later taught structural geology at Baylor University and joined the Applied Geodynamics Laboratory in 2000.
Role in AGL
Hudec became a co-director of AGL in 2002 and later served as its principal investigator.
AGL combines physical modelling, numerical modelling and geological or seismic studies in an international salt-tectonics research program.
Areas of Expertise
His UT profile lists salt tectonics, 3-D computer modelling, kinematic models, structural geology, cross-section restoration and seismic interpretation.
This combination allows rock-salt bodies to be investigated not only mineralogically but also as three-dimensional structural systems.
